Photo by Robert Clark @Robert Clark // Sponsored by @AlitaMovie // The merger of man and machine has long been a concept in popular culture, the man-machine mixture was mentioned in science fiction well before World War II. The term cyborg, short for "cybernetic organism", was coined by Manfred E. Clynes and Nathan S. Kline in 1960 to refer to their conception of an enhanced human being who could survive in extraterrestrial environments. Their concept identified the need for a connected relationship between human and machine as the new frontier of space exploration was expanding. The OpenBCI headset, which is displayed above, senses brain waves and transmits them to hardware and software, making it possible for anyone to become a cyborg. While the industry is in its infancy, the possibility to control things with our minds appears to be more than just a fantasy. // The future of cyborgs and mankind living as one is closer than you think.
