Everyone walking past could see him ploughing his field. Unmoved by my presence or the gazes of passers-by, he did not seem to care about his image. ‘I just hope we get enough rain this year,’ he said. We talked for a while, and the one topic our conversation revolved around was the future of his grandchildren and what he could do to improve it. For me, this man’s actions are driven by the unseen concern he has for his grandchildren. To my mind, this elegant gesture reflects his true nature of compassion and love. While others are still hung over in bed after New Year’s Eve, he is already up doing what he can for the future of his descendants. He has every justification to drink tea, watch the birds or go for a walk.
