Born into a working class family on the South Side of Chicago, Michelle Obama says she questioned whether her humble beginnings would make her a good fit for Princeton. "My advice to young women," she said, "is that you have to start by getting those demons out of your head." She still faces some of these insecurities today, but she now notes: “I have been at probably every powerful table that you can think of, I have worked at nonprofits, I have been at foundations, I have worked in corporations, served on corporate boards, I have been at G-summits, I have sat in at the U.N.,” she said. “They are not that smart.” ?
