For one-time architecture student Raymond Tan (@rymondtn), baking started as a hobby. But reimagining classic treats soon became a passion and, in a sense, a passport to the world. Today, Raymond travels often from his home in Melbourne, Australia — to friends’ destination weddings, for example, where he bakes the cakes — and he teaches others to create confections of their own. “In my baking I can tap into foods from my culture — Asian pastries, mooncakes, things like that,” Raymond, 31, says. Best of all, Raymond notes, he’s always learning something new. “I believe in pushing myself, trying different things,” he says. “You can add something of yourself, something unique, to anything you do, and that makes it special.
