This photo is one of my favorites, captured on day 96 of the Florida Wildlife Corridor #Everglades to #Okefenokee Expedition. At this point, we had been trekking for nearly 1,000 miles from Everglades National Park and were paddling upstream on the Suwannee River about to enter its headwaters in the Okefenokee Swamp just across the Georgia-Florida line. There was a slight drizzle making nearly shadowless light and the shallow white sandbar shone orange through the dark brown water starting its journey 240 miles downstream to the Gulf of Mexico. This ogeechee tupelo tree in fresh spring foliage mesmerized me for half an hour. Then I had to paddle twice as hard to try to catch up with the rest of the team.
