? Today we introduce Ricardo Rivera @ricardo_rivera who is one of the artists on display selected by an internationally acclaimed jury ✨Here a sneak peek at Ricardo’s work on display ? ‘Truth is that the fashion industry can be very superficial, but one of the reasons why it becomes relevant to me is for being simultaneously so influential in setting standards for societies, specifically in matters of human beauty and gender norms, trying to dictate what is beautiful and what is not or what is good, expected or acceptable and what is not. I want to work in an industry where I have something to say and a fresh perspective to share. I choose to photograph individuals and ethnic groups with different cultural backgrounds, especially the black and latino. The people who are not represented enough in the industry. In Honduras, my home country, as in most of Latin America there is a “macho” image of what a man is supposed to be and look like. A commonplace, strong sense of expectancy; an exaggerated masculinity, about men in general. In a similar venue and in context with diversity, what is also important in my work as a fashion photographer is how to redefine the image in lieu of the usual clichéd meaning of masculinity. Not only to be inclusive of every kind of man there is or can be, but also trying to highlight a more delicate and sensitive side by subverting stereotypes. I am very hopeful that there is real change happening in the industry, raising awareness of the beauty and the challenges that lie behind a diverse world; a world where we start seeing more variety in races, size and age across the board.’ #RicardoRivera
