Today we introduce Reatile Moalusi @reatilemoalusi who is one of the artists on display selected by an internationally acclaimed jury ✨Here a sneak peek at Reatile’s work on display - from the series ‘Mollo Wa Badimo - Pigment’ ? ‘Pigment, is the second episode of Molelo Wa Badimo. ‘Pigment’ and ‘Complex’ion’ are each a collection of portraits that convey a sense of character through capturing the embodied contrasts of Vitiligo. Vitiligo is a condition that causes depigmentation on sections of skin. The ‘Pigment’ series is made up of portraits that illustrate individuals with Vitiligo against the backdrop of wildlife element or symbolism. The project aims to share an intimate account of the individual’s experiences through collaborating with the person who has Vitiligo and their private/public awareness campaigns about the skin condition. In this case Molelo Wa badimo share sentiment in the need for increased awareness of Vitiligo and the clarifying of its misconception by focusing on beauty, identity, self-acceptance and the dispelling of societal myths about Vitiligo. Furthermore, the project seeks to create positive and attractive imagery of persons living with Vitiligo. As observed and experienced, the depigmentation of the skin caused by Vitiligo is a constant change.
The project also taps into the constant evolving relationship with identity and beauty. More importantly the series is about creating increased awareness. The works seek to inspire a renewed dialog on beauty just as albinism campaigns have managed to represent its relation with the public.’ #ReatileMoalusi
