A member of the Baseball Hall of Fame, Clemente was distinguished on and off the field. He fought for recognition of Latino ballplayers and held free baseball clinics for children in Puerto Rico, where he grew up.
He also helped people in need across the U.S. and Central America. Clemente was killed in 1972 in a plane crash while on a humanitarian aid mission to Nicaragua.
