Villeneuve-lès-Avignon: the village of Avignon, across the Rhône river and Roman bridge, hosts a Saturday flea market at the foot of Fort St André’s 14th century curtain walls–first stop. Then lunch in the garden of the newly restored Hôtel Le Prieuré was as delicious as it was beautiful.
Musee Pierre-de-Luxembourg is currently showing a collection of Enguerrand Quarton’s, but the highlight of the visit was the double face stone sculpture of the Virgin Mary. I’ve seen double face silk, cashmere, and merino, but never something like this.
