The story goes that Douglas Cooper & #JohnRichardson bought this 18th Century chateau, outside of Uzès, partly because their initials C&R are engraved on its facade. And more likely because the original owner of those initials, Baron de Castille, constructed an epic palace and gardens with grand tour follies scattered across its many hectares.
Having recently finished the grand tour themselves, Douglas & John probably felt a sense of destiny and saw the peculiar property as the perfect place to host the art scene.
That they did: three years later and #Picasso was engraving on the walls, one of three of its kind in the world. The pieces are now listed and come with the property.
In addition to the engravings, the couple took what was left of the gardens and grew extraordinary moss covering that twists & turns in the wild, and circles around a labyrinth in the formal portion.
