Did you know there is a canid living in the area around India that was once thought to be the immediate ancestor of the domesticated dog. It is called a dhole and unfortunately most people have never heard of one. For many, when they hear the word dhole, they just think of a brand of pineapple. In reality it is one of the most magnificent and endangered canids in existence. The dhole is sometimes called the whistling dog due to its unique vocalizations. It is found in large packs and is a very social canid. There are fewer dholes alive than tigers but because few people know about them they don’t get much help. Please learn more about the dhole and spread the word about the need to save these animals.
