Repost from @belleyoga.tokyo Kapotasana for day 7 of #AshtangaBackbends . . This was one of the "scary Backbends" for me for years. I literally thought I would never achieve it. . . What changed was the realization that the important thing is not whether you can touch or grab your toes (or your heels!) but facing the anxieties and discomfort that comes up, breathing through them, being self aware enough to back off a little if the discomfort is too strong, and accept where you are in each day. . . ☑️Tips/Cues: From camel pose, continue to strongly engage thighs pressing forward, hands in prayer pose and then over head down to kapotasana B. . . Alternatively, start from supine hero pose, hands by neck and press up like in wheel pose. I usually need to press up and open chest, take a few breaths, then creep my hands a little closer to my feet, repeat a few times until I get as far as I can go, and breathe 5 breaths. . Modifications : many practitioners find a wheel to be helpful to get some support while working on this pose. If you don't have a wheel, you can use cushions and blankets. . Another way to practice is camel pose with hands on the wall and walking down. . .
