Judging by his colorful, handmade set, you’d think that Houiea Love (@houiea) was an Afropunk street style pro. And yet, he admits, yesterday was his first time at the festival—or any concert for that matter. “My outfit was inspired by a Yoruba deity named Oshumara, who is like a rainbow serpent,” he says. “I had seen all of the Afropunk pictures before and I was like, well, this is how I’d like to show up.” Love works as a multidimensional healing artist dabbling in Akashic record readings, spiritual meditations, and Reiki sessions, and he’s currently at work on his first novel. “I’m also incorporating Yoruba deities into the book, which actually has its own soundtrack. I’m releasing the first single on Monday,” he explains before quipping, “I’m trying to Cardi B the situation, okay?” Director @crackstevens
