Today at Afropunk, @adeline—the French-Caribbean singer and frontwoman of disco band Escort—made her solo festival debut. Dazzling a crowd of thousands while performing her new soulful ballad “Swirl,” a song she produced entirely herself, she donned gold, glitter-flecked lids and Technicolor cornrows that were stacked with plastic rainbow barrettes, the latter inspired by the Bana tribe of Ethiopia. “It’s hard to stand out from the audience at Afropunk,” she says with a laugh. “But I love the challenge!”
