Spiranthes sinensis, a type of orchid, grows in all kinds of places, from the furrows of rice fields to the peaks of tall mountains, and it blooms pretty flowers of only a few millimeters in size. Looking at them with a macro lens, you can see that the blossoms form in interesting shapes. The scientific name "Spiranthes" comes from the Greek words "speira" (spiral) and "anthos" (flower), which describes how the stalks of the plant are twisted in spirals. In English, it is called "Lady's tresses" or "Screw flower".
