Today I want to scream at the top of my lungs, in the way that you do want to when you’re staring at disaster beyond comprehension, how horror and shock rise up as an appropriate response to some experiences.

And anger. Not rage or hate, but anger. As many of you know I’ve been very depressed lately. Someone once told me to look for my anger, especially suppressed anger, or anger that I don’t feel I have a right to, the kind of anger that no one understands or approves of, anger that makes other people uncomfortable. I was told to look for that when I dove down into the realm of deep sadness and could not find the way out. Well, today, I think I found it.

More than one specific thing today I am present to the rawness of a long, and perhaps much needed scream. A mix of shock and terror but also a reclamation of life, a scream that sets a boundary, a yell that echoes out as a rebellion against hopelessness and despair, a voice that says simply—enough, no more.

No more “friends” who say how much they love you and try to play the role of angel while screwing you over and throwing you under the bus.

No more hiding behind excuses, lies and spin that allow the cruel to claim compassion while marching on in their heartless conquest.
_
No more of people who twist the truth to their convenience and make you doubt your sanity.
_
No more ignorance, no more denial, no more knights in shining armor who have sold their souls to the highest bidder.
_
No more need for approval, no applause, no standing ovation, no vacuous happy words, no comfort quotes, no brainwashing.
_
No more prejudice masquerading as laws that screw those who aren’t members of the privileged elite.
_
No more gilded castles and border walls that keep our hearts cloistered in hate.
_
Yes to love. The kind of love that is fierce and forgiving, life-affirming and intelligent, filled with wisdom and independence and the long, hundred year view.

Yes to faith, the kind of faith that can take 40 years to reach its goal and never waver.
_
Yes to peace, a peace that passes all understanding.
_
Yes to grace and forgiveness bc we are all wounded, hurt, stumbling, hot messes but God loves us anyway.
