During this season, you can hear the cheerful voice of the Northern Wren at any dark forest with a stream. Although they have small bodies that are only about the size of a human fist, their voices are surprisingly loud, so you might be tempted to search for them by looking upward. However, they can often be found chirping from places that aren't so high, such as mossy rocks or fallen trees. When this photo was taken, the Northern Wren was on the rail of a bridge that crosses the Oirase Gorge.
