The Museum has been photographed since the invention of the medium in the mid-19th century – pioneer William Henry Fox Talbot captured the old building in an early photograph known as a ‘calotype’ around 1843. The name calotype is thought to come from the Greek ‘kalos’ (beautiful) and ‘topus’ (impression).
