Few truths are absolute. Two people can experience the exact same thing and take totally different things away. Life is an exercise in subjectivity. Just listen to the Laurel/Yanni audio recording and it will blow your mind. What did you hear? Apparently 53% hear Laurel ans 47% heat Yanni. I heard Laurel very clearly while my husband heard Yanni. He could not believe that I heard Laurel and thought it was absurd that I did. I watched a video explaining why different people hear different things so I was more willing to accept his different experience (although no matter how hard I tried I just couldn’t hear Yanni). . _ Now think about this. How may wars have been waged because two people (or nations) experienced the same thing and disagreed about what happened. When we experience something as truth we assume that it’s absolute. But our experience is really always subjective. Few truths are absolute and the ones that are absolute don’t belong to the human emotional realm. _ With a reasoned mind and an open heart you can learn to accept differing viewpoints and experiences of the same reality, even if those differences stand in sharp contrast with your own. Your mind expands. Your heart softens. This is yoga. _ Our truth does not live in a vacuum, nor is it an excuse for harmful behavior. The tighter we hold on to our truth, the more stiff our minds become. My teacher often said, “body is not stiff, mind is stiff.” And I experience that statement as true. Sometimes the most stuck thing is the mind. Sometimes the deepest yoga happens when you learn to stretch your mind. But one thing is clear—we all need to keep practicing. _ #practiceyogachangeyourworld #onebreathatatime Photo @sigismondiphotography _ Come practice with me and Tim this weekend in Copenhagen @yogamudracopenhagen ?
