This is me at 9 years old. I remember this as the age where I started to feel what I called for many years “alone” until finding out I battle depression. Today on #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek I dedicate this connection to her, the young Natalia who spent many moments feeling like she was drowning and not knowing why she feels like that. I dedicate it to her and anyone suffering from depression or mental illness. I've been blessed to receive messages from many of you. Some of the messages I’ve received have two common denominators. The first is the inherent human need to connect, which I find essential to our growth. The second is a sense of loneliness and/or depression. I want you all to know that you are heard and you are seen. I also want to share with you that I know the road you are on. I've traveled it before, at various times in my life. It’s okay to find yourself on this unsteady path. We are not alone. I am battling the walk as I type this post. For today, Be proud of your eagerness to connect, for that reflects your boundless capacity to love. And that, is the talent of all talents. Feel pride in your courage to accept your pain, shame, guilt, mistakes and to share them with those you trust. Feel pride in not succumbing to the unquestioning, insensitive model that we have been made to believe we should be. Feel immense pride in your vulnerability, that's a superpower! Do not escape it and do not stop traveling within yourselves; face your road. Do more of what makes your spirit blossom. Be yourself undoubtedly, even when nobody else seems to see you. The universe sees you. The world is pleading for more beings willing to connect/be vulnerable with one another. It is for this very reason that we need you. Immortalize your story with pen and paper so that one day, it may serve someone else. Be the breadcrumbs in the middle of a forest that brings them home. This is the road that creates wisdom, take comfort in that. Finally...think of the little YOU that felt, might still feel like she is drowning. HUG her in your heart and mind, say “it’s okay” and heal together! I send you love, the winds-back will carry it. #EmpowerWhatReflectsYourHumanity
