It’s been a couple weeks now since I left Spain and even though I feel consumed with climbing here in Colorado already I want to share a bit about the last three months. I walked away empty handed this trip in regards to the two routes I focused on, which is always difficult to accept when you feel really close to success ☹️ I focused on La Capella for the first 6 weeks, which I managed to piece together in two sections and got the moves pretty sussed. It felt possible to climb by that point with the right conditions, but as the wintery weather departed it began to feel less feasible considering the type of holds on the route ? In lew of hanging a few meters of the ground my entire trip and splitting my tips every try, I decided that adapting to long routes again would be way more fun, so I started trying La Rambla ?. I had some really promising tries early on when it was still quite cold, falling on the move to the undercling near the top of the last boulder, but lacked a bit of resistance and needed to flow better through the bottom to be fresher at the crux. Then the rain came ?‍♂️? I pressed onwards ? I was forced to dial my beta in even more to climb up to the crux in such humidity, and I could always at least match my highpoint even though the conditions always seemed worse then what we ever called “the worst”. Despite the weather I felt determined, hopeful, super motivated, and finally prepared to climb the route. However, I never imagined it would just become summer ?. For the last two weeks I warred with heat, patiently waiting for wind which never came. I gave it hell, was as a muerte as I could be, but as it neared 25 degrees celcius, every section that used to feel easy felt incredibly desperate. I wanted the rain to come back ? I still kept reaching my high point, always feeling fresher then the try before, only to savagely wet fire off the last black holds at the top. Here is a clip from @josepmalo from one of my last desperate attempts ? Thankfully failure is integral for progression, and the fuel for the fire and passion that burns within us all, plus, it gets you in awesome shape ? Heading back this winter to finish things up ?
