I wear her initials permanently written on me to initiate the conversation about lung cancer... Doris Dooyema (DD) was my grandma and my hero. She was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and bravely battled for the next 7 months. As my family and I processed her loss we kept coming back to what the cause was. While smoking is still the leading cause in America... the stigma of lung cancer being a “smoking cancer” holds us back from educating everyone of the other causes! In my grandmothers case she was a non smoker, we found out it was from the #2 cause which is radon... radon can be tested in your home and eradicated. It doesn’t have to be a cause if we educate ourselves and share with others to test their homes. You can go to lungforce.org for more info and get yourself a free home test kit!
