Madame Pele has woken up again on the Big Island of Hawaii where Kilauea began a new phase in her eruption. Our hearts go out to all the people in Hawaii whose lives have been impacted by this eruption—please stay safe.. During the last major event I was there for @ナショナルジオグラフィック with volcanologists who knew what they were doing and with @GBradlewis who made this photo of me. At the edge of an erupting volcano you’re standing on top of a gigantic breathing, living expression of earth at its most fundamental. It’s awesome and scary at the same time.
