This week we’re celebrating artwork in the galleries made by artists when they were aged 16-25.

Pauline Boty was a founder of the British Pop art movement and the only woman painter in the British wing of the movement. She painted The Only Blonde in the World at 25 years old. Most pop art responses to Marilyn Monroe were made by men and perhaps this gave Boty a different view on the movie star.

The artist’s paintings and collages often demonstrated a joy in self-assured femininity and female sexuality, and expressed overt or implicit criticism of the "man's world" in which she lived. It is ironic that she was herself frequently discussed in terms of her appearance.
