For this #TBT I wanted to share the process behind one of my new paintings "Inversion and Overlap." I created this piece for my recent solo show “Children on the Edge” @coreyhelfordgallery.
In the talk bubbles, there are overlapped layers that say “I hate you!” and “I love you!” At the bottom left, I wrote 死 (death) and put it upside down. I also inverted the color of the boy character that is correct when the hue is reversed, however, there’s no correct way to look at this piece. I just wanted to reflect various contradictions that exist in life and the chaos of the modern world.
