Happy birthday #HannahWilke!
The artist was known for exploring issues of sexuality and gender through a feminist lens. In the last years of her life, Wilke struggled with cancer. She documented her experience, taking photographs of herself in her hospital bed. These are the works on the left in this image. They were included in our exhibition “NYC 1993: Experimental Jet Set, Trash and No Star,” which looked at art made and exhibited in New York over the course of one year.
