As part of their school curriculum, children in Llapallapani learn how to weave straw. Here, a boy arrives at the site where its class takes place. Once adults, they can sell hats, key chains, earrings, and other handicrafts for tourists. The Uru people remaining in small fishing villages are struggling to survive while hoping for the return of their dried-up Lake Poopó, in Bolivia's altiplano.

This is my first feature for National Geographic, looking at how climate, overuse and drought are affecting the world’s largest lakes. For the full story, please, look for the March issue of @ナショナルジオグラフィック. I will continue sharing more photographs of Lake Poopó's surrounding communities affected by its lack of water.
