Sure, you’ll lose weight. But you will lose so much more that that: ⠀ This caloric intake is within starvation levels🔻. ⠀ In other words, the metabolic and physical effects of dieting to such extreme levels puts your body in starvation mode🔻. The lack of energy consumed will cause fatigue🔻. You will feel drained of energy, lethargic🔻. You may experience black outs, dizziness, or fainting. ⠀ Your body will break down muscle to be used as fuel – this is a survival mechanism that is used as an attempt to keep your vital organs functioning (i.e. heart, lungs, kidneys). ⠀ 👉🏼The lack of micronutrients consumed and absorbed can lead to anemia, edema, and even heart failure. ⠀ And because survival is of the utmost importance during starvation, other physiological processes are disturbed. Ladies, this includes your menstrual cycle. Starving yourself to such extreme levels may cause amenorrhea to occur, defined by the absence of your period for at least three months. ⠀ Because your estrogen will reach abnormally low levels, your bones may face consequences, such as failing to reach proper growth level or developing osteoporosis (porous bones), which make your bones more susceptible to breaks. ⠀ While some of these physiological disturbances can be mitigated once your body is healthy and restored, there is still a risk of developing long term consequences ⠀ ⠀ These are some of the many physiological problems that arise when your body is in starvation mode. This applies beyond those battling an eating disorder. The fitness community is also included📢. ⠀ So please please PLEASE, I urge you to be careful with your health.
