What is art?
There are various interpretations and answers to this question. However, when it comes to the ultimate art, you simply know it the moment you encounter it. It’s the moment you feel freedom. What lets you feel freedom, that medium, is art.
When I proposed a collaboration with Virgil Abloh and he accepted it, a spring breeze swept through my brain and I felt free. I felt freedom in the way a character in a childish manga or picture book may embrace it, with his both arms outstretched to the sky, gleefully screaming with a smile on his face!
My imagination exploded and numerous ideas that could overcome various boundaries that exist in the creative scene kept welling up. Virgil, too, started throwing ideas at me that were mind-blowingly simple and uninhibited. Our ideas gushing out seem to be endless.
One reason is because Virgil, who is a fashion designer, an architect, and a multi-tasking creator, is a genius at collaborating. Another reason is that the contemporary art criticism and market alike are craving for an unprecedented, significant change. And that change in question is not anything dramatic like a new invention but rather, something that can be found in a quotidian landscape, on the street.
