Ce portrait, peint par l’artiste anglais Sir Thomas Lawrence en 1800, s’intitule « Les enfants d’Ascoyghe Boucherett » et représente ainsi Emilia Mary, Ascoyghe, Juliana, et Maria. Cependant, quand la peinture fut exposée la même année à la @royalacademyarts ce fut sous le titre « Le petit orateur », évoquant ainsi le geste du plus jeune qui lève les bras comme dans une joute oratoire, distraitement écouté d'ailleurs par son frère et ses sœurs ainées. Parmi les grands peintres britanniques, Lawrence est un des plus célèbres et son œuvre est largement représentée dans les collections françaises. En plus de ses peintures, d’importants dessins de Lawrence sont conservés et continuent d’être acquis par le Département des Arts Graphiques du Louvre 😊 - 🌍Wednesday is kids day on our Instagram! However that same year the painting was exposed at the @royalacademyarts under the name of “The Little Orator”, most likely referring to the youngest of the four children’s pose. She seems to be imitating an adult whilst her older siblings are half paying attention. In France, Lawrence, one of the leading British painters from the beginning of the 19th century, is very well known and his work is widely respected and represented in French collections.
