Brilliantly red, we love spotting a cardinal in the backyard—or in the baseball diamond. This sheet music was published in 1937 by George M. Cohan. According to the @librarycongress, The Milwaukee Journal wrote about the tune on June 17, 1937. The story was titled "The Cardinals Mix Up a Little Harmony." ⚾️?? According to our Library of Congress friends, "Apparently Cardinals players really took to Cohan’s then-new song and began singing together before the games." They even have a photo of team members playing guitar, fiddle, and blowing on a jug while singing along to Cohan's song!
What's your favorite sports stadium song? We've got a thing for "Eye of the Tiger," "We are the Champions," and "All I Do Is Win," of course. But for #NationalBirdDay, we're listening to "Rockin' Robin," "Blackbird," and "Free Bird." #BaseballHistory #SportsHistory #MusicHistory #Cardinals #STLCards #BirdDay #1930s #SheetMusic #Ephemera
