#FeministFlashbackFriday | Starting from a two-dimensional sketch of each plate, #JudyChicago spent two years developing the proper carving and firing techniques to realize her vision. With sculptor Leonard Skuro and engineer Ken Gilliam, she altered the jigger and kiln used in the plate-making process to minimize cracking of the elaborate and often heavy objects. With her ceramics team, Chicago created the same plates over and over, sculpting, painting, and tweaking them in the hopes that one would survive the multistep firing and meet her standards for honoring a specific woman. #dinnerpartyroots⠀
