Women earned some pretty big—and small—victories in what has been a problematic year in many ways. We’re counting down to 2018 by celebrating some of those major moments. “2017 couldn't have been a timelier year for Margaret Atwood's beloved work of speculative fiction, The Handmaid's Tale, to come to Hulu. And the casting! Both Elisabeth Moss and Alexis Bledel won Emmys for their respective turns as an overtly sexual, defiant handmaid and a lesbian rebel, while Samira Wiley was nominated as a woman struggling whether to conform or fight. These women brought the world of Gilead to life but, in an even more traumatizing twist, they also portrayed the world before: A world like ours, with modern luxuries, that shows how a woman can have all her rights slowly stripped away, until her sole purpose in life is birthing children for her “commander.” Another breakout star of the show: Its director Reed Morano, who became the first woman to win an Emmy for drama direction in 22 years.”— @_sleach.
