Sometimes a painting and its frame are truly made for each other. #Whistler designed the frame for this canvas himself, including six Chinese characters. The characters mirror the shape and placement of the reign marks that often appear on the bottom of Kangxi-era porcelains, which Whistler has included in this image. The frame is not shown on our website but you can see it in the exhibition #OldMastersNow.
