Born #onthisday in 1866, Vasily #Kandinsky—an influential Russian painter and art theorist—is thought to have painted the first purely abstract works. Following the Nazi party’s accession to power, Kandinsky lost his teaching position at the Bauhaus and moved to Paris in 1934 with his wife, Nina. "Isolated Objects" is one of the earliest works that the artist made after moving to the French capital. It’s composition of floating biomorphic shapes is typical of the Paris period, during which Kandinsky replaced the severe geometry of his Bauhaus days with a more playful approach to #abstraction.
