🇫🇷Ces beaux papillons font partie d’un album créé pour le Prince Salim au début du XVIIe siècle quand il s’est rebellé contre son père. Il a installé sa propre Cour et s’est proclamé lui-même « Shah » Salim. Les folios de l’album sont facilement identifiés grâce à leurs médaillons géométriques peints avec de l'or qui encadrent les images. Souvent, il y a aussi une ligne de persan sur et sous l’image qui est normalement un poème lié à la représentation. Principalement dispersées entre l’Europe et les Etats-Unis, environ 30 peintures existent toujours aujourd’hui et nous avons la chance d’en conserver plusieurs dans le département des arts de l’Islam, dont ces deux gracieux papillons.

🌎 These beautiful butterflies are part of the Salim album which was compiled for Prince Salim at the beginning of the XVII century when he rebelled against his father and set up his own court declaring himself “Shah” Salim. The folios of the album are easily identified, thanks to the gold geometric borders that frame the images. There is also often a line of Persian below or above the image which is poetry relating to the depiction. Only 30 paintings remain from the collection, of which most are primarily spread between America and Europe. We are lucky enough to have….in the Islamic Arts department at the Louvre, including these graceful butterflies.
