??Saviez-vous qu’aujourd’hui c’est la fête de l’Immaculée Conception ? Dans ce magnifique tableau de Bartolomé Estéban Murillo, la Vierge est dépeinte âgée de 12 ou 13 ans avec la lune à ses pieds et les attributs symboliques, selon les préconisations du peintre et théoricien sévillan Pacheco. Les quatre attributs (figurés dans l'angle inférieur droit) sont tirés des Litanies de la Vierge : la fontaine d'eau vive, la porte du ciel, le jardin clos et le palmier. De plus la lumière brille sur elle, symbole de sa pureté.

?Did you know that today is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception? Here is a painting by Bartolomé Estéban Murillo of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Young, perhaps only 12 or 13 years old, the light is shining down on her from above and the moon is at her feet. The painting also includes her symbolic attributes (bottom right hand corner): the fountain of white water, the gate of the sky, the closed garden and the palm tree. They are taken from the Litanies of the Virgin as suggested by the Sevillian painter and theoretician Pacheco.
