This isn’t the Magic Johnson trading card you’re used to?
These AIDS Awareness trading cards helped raise both awareness and money during the AIDS epidemic.
In 1993, comic book publisher Eclipse Enterprises released 110 AIDS Awareness trading cards.
From Madonna to Jane Doe, the cards featured profiles of both celebrities and anonymous individuals, people who were battling or died of the disease and those who were involved in awareness. In addition to these profiles, they also included information about HIV-AIDS.
As well as raising awareness, these cards helped raise money to fight AIDS. Fifteen percent of the proceeds were donated to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Learn more about these trading cars through our blog post. (Link in the bio)
