My morning began with the unfun aspects of adulting involving phone calls, paperwork and the like. Once I got through it, I noticed that I felt zapped, low, anxious and tense. Not how I wish to spend the entirety of my day. So I took thirty minutes to decompress by getting out some calming aromatics and creative supplies and arranging my space (which often is my bed because I like to sprawl out and be cozy while creating) in a way that feels good to my soul. It’s my version of a zen garden. And once again I’m continually amazed of how changing one’s space, the fragrance from botanicals or how any creative activity can spur new movement followed by new thoughts. Within that half hour, my anxiety lessened and feelings of lightness and delight gradually took over. And suddenly I’m re-centered. This is why I love the insatiability of creative realms and hobbies. Whether by simply arranging items, writing, doodling, scrapbooking, making use of tools or what have you, movement progresses in a way that increases focus, joy and peace. And I love that.

Today I decided to begin a new insert in my traveler’s notebook and adding more elements to it which I’ve wanted to do for over a year. So why not today? There is something magical about analogue explorations and the art of slow living. Each year I want more of it. It’s challenging with all the responsibilities in the day to day but at the same time (at least for me) it’s absolutely vital too.
