My son asked me this week if we could have some more time being together outside of school things and the usual routine. And I knew right then that his heart’s language of quality time was beckoning. As in being fully present, ready to engage and enjoy time spent together. That means the phone gets put away (unless we both want to take photos). It means that sometimes plans are cancelled or rain checked. And that we don’t miss our stories at bedtime (especially now that we’re venturing through Narnia). And it also means that I am inaccessible to all else during that time. It’s something that I don’t want my family to ever feel they have to vie for or be in competition for. Has it cost me? Sometimes yes. But the gain of building memories and connection is the most priceless to me so I cannot really say that there is a cost for that, you know. ❤️

This was from earlier today. We went on an unplanned excursion to one of our favorite places and it was one of those days where all the little details came together in a way that felt like magic. From the beautiful weather to a stellar parking spot, the atmosphere and festivities, to good food shared, trolley rides, puppet making, street exploring, thrift finding, treasure hunting, leaf collecting and cookie eating. Starting from yesterday afternoon and picked back up from this morning. And smiles were had, hearts full and now movies about to be watched. Yes. Very happy campers indeed.
