So just stumbled upon this story... a little girl who lives in a group home part time in Boston was taken to a salon, by a volunteer, to have her beautiful curly hair shaved off, without her parents' permission. The programme deny the allegation that it was done because of a "hygiene issue" but it didn't even surprise me to read it... I was told that my hair was a health and safety issue as a child... The other allegation that the little girl was told her hair would grow back straight if she shaved it, didn't surprise me either... This probably won't be the last time this child will be taught her natural beauty doesn't meet the world's beauty standards... This story hurt me personally to read.... I edited my caption as I had incorrectly written that it had taken place at an after school program. To be honest whatever the family's situation.... I don't know how you can explain this away... curly hair is NOT a hygiene issue... it sounds like laziness and ignorance.
