It’s Squid and Cuttlefish Day! The common cuttlefish has a devastating approach to hunting its prey: confuse and conquer. To hypnotize and lure victims, cuttlefish use their amazing camouflage, putting on a “light show” that changes their skin’s color and opacity in rhythmic, pulsating waves. Once entranced, the target is ambushed by a long, darting tongue-like structure called the radula, which pulls it into this cephalopod’s awaiting beak and tentacles to complete the catch. #amnh #insideamnh #cuttlefish #cephalopod #cephalopods #naturalhistory
