Hurricane #Irma threw its hardest punches in the eastern Caribbean and throughout the state of Florida. But long after its winds diminished, it did enormous damage up and down the Eastern Seaboard. In Irma’s wake, the photographer @howdyluke surveyed damage along the coast. In South Carolina, the force of Irma’s waves caused significant erosion of Folly Beach. After much of it was washed away by Hurricane Matthew a year ago, Irma’s damage was substantially worse. (Swipe left to see more.) | Harold Hayman, 72, picked up branches scattered around his yard. “We just dodged a bullet,” he said. | In Savannah, Georgia, a sailboat that had been carried away by the storm wound up marooned on the side of Highway 80. | Floating docks collided in the deluge, depositing a blizzard of crumbling Styrofoam onto the Cumberland Island National Seashore. Locals fished pieces of foam out of the river. | And raging water in the St. Marys River devastated Lang’s Marina in St. Marys, Georgia.
