Today The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, has opened the new Queensferry Crossing over the Firth of Forth.

Today's event takes place exactly 53 years after HM opened the previous Forth Road Bridge.

Before crossing the new bridge, The Queen met a number of the 10,000 people who helped build the bridge and who worked a combined total of over 13 million hours.

The RAF Red Arrows then performed a spectacular flypast as The Queen and The Duke crossed the new bridge, which is 1.7 miles long and the longest triple tower cable-stayed bridge in the world.

On the south side of the Crossing, The Queen gave a speech to commemorate the opening the new bridge: "First Minister, The Duke of Edinburgh and I are delighted to be able to join you, and the people of Scotland, to celebrate this extraordinary achievement." ?PA
