Yesterday evening I was able to go sit by the river with a close friend while in a quiet pensive space. And the most beautiful gift I received is that he didn't ask to reschedule our time, nor sit there uncomfortably, nor try to offer advice or change my mood, nor take on my mood, but instead he simply opened up space for me to be in it and somehow convey that he was perfectly content sitting beside me quietly in our space by the river. With each passing year, it seems like this is more of a rarity. The inclination to offer counsel, to influence, to change another even in the most subtle of ways can be prominent, so how wondrous it is when a friend gifts openness especially in seasons of growth, strengthening and change. ❤️
