This image of a total solar eclipse is undeniably stunning, but it wasn’t taken yesterday in the US. It’s from the collection of photos taken by Australian astronomers at the turn of last century. These pieces of astronomical history were the result of expeditions to Tahiti and Goondiwindi by yesteryear astronomers whose painstaking efforts observing and capturing the event will be recognised by the eclipse chasers of today.
