Fifty years after the "Summer of Love," its psychedelic vibes live on through stylized concert posters in our @cooperhewitt.
Artist Bonnie MacLean designed this one, commissioned by her husband Bill Graham, who was promoting shows as part of the Monterey Pop Festival.
The June 1967 festival embodied the summer’s spirit and included legendary performances by Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and The Who, featured here, who were on their first trip to the West Coast of the U.S.
MacLean went on to create around 30 posters between 1967 and 1970 for bands like Jefferson Airplane, The Doors and Pink Floyd.
