In our journeys through life we meet many kind ones. During a previous story with @ナショナルジオグラフィック I met 6 year-old Maria Mika, inside her family's gentle home in Engaloni, Tanzania. Maria's mother had dressed her that morning in Sunday's finest for church, layering her daughter under a ruby red vest of knitted sequins, a crowning of pale green, wrapped like a gracious vine, accenting subtleties of flowers spiraling upon a pleated skirt. The mother asked me to take her portrait. She didn't need to, I was already dumbstruck by Maria's charm.
