I am honored to take part in @YouTube’s #ProudToBe campaign that was launched today. They created a beautiful video that is currently being featured on their homepage and are celebrating people’s #ProudToBe moments on all of their socials.

I’ll never forget standing at the base of the steps of the United States Supreme Court in 2015 when they ruled in favor of the freedom to marry. I was so #ProudToBe following in the footsteps of the people who fought to make that day possible. For most of my life, I was ashamed of being gay and was too scared to stand up for myself, let alone for others. However, after losing my partner of six years, Tom Bridegroom, I learned how fleeting life is; and after being banned from his funeral by his unaccepting parents, I learned how important it is to share your story and to stand up for what you believe in--even when met with opposition. I decided to share my story on YouTube, which completely changed my life and turned me into what many call an "accidental activist." I truly believe that all of our stories matter, and that we are all capable of being instruments for social change. During Pride month, and all year, stand up, speak out, and be #ProudToBe yourself! ❤️????
