#EadweardMuybridge’s sequential photographs of human and animal bodies in motion were hugely influential on artists and scientists alike, and served as forerunners for what became known as “motion pictures.” This was the first time that such scenes had been captured by a camera in such detail. Many of the images were published as a portfolio in 1887. The quality and originality of the photographs overcame initial concerns about the possible obsenity of so much male and female nudity in one publication.
